Interesting. I'd read that he didn't count as U21 this season as he's, well, not U21 any more. However, it appears that you count as an U21 if you were born after 1/1/2001 and Thomas was born on 10/6/2001. Therefore, you are correct (I think).

Some of the non-highlighted players need to step-up this season, excluding Bertrand, Albrighton, Perez, Amartey and Vesty who I think just aren't good enough.

Nope, only players who are free agents prior to the transfer window closing can be signed and registered to play after the deadline.
