That's fine, and I 100% applaud you for that.

But it isn't nice to have somebody look down at their nose at you, or appear to, because they don't share your idea of a nice holiday.

I love English seaside holidays, and all my childhood life I had the piss taken out of me for not going abroad and not having any money. Truth is, we never, but what we did do we really enjoyed, and my children also really enjoy the English seaside. I hope they never get the same snobbish attitude from people that I got, especially from adults.

When have i looked down my nose at anyone ,all i have said its not for us :102:

THAT MITE BE YOUR TYPE OF HOLIDAY

Its not ours .

we prefer our kids too see a bit of the world and different cultures .

and not beer and chicken and chip nights,we don't go on holiday for that, when you can have that at home.

I am guessing by your comments you like that type of holiday :102:

We don't .

We dont like that type of holiday too many prats,JUST WANTING TO GET SHIT FACED EVERY NIGHT,GREAT FUN :icon_roll:icon_roll

My parents took us to Butlins every year. There was stuff for us to do day and night, but it didn't mean we spent all our time on the camp.
There's more to the British Isles than beer, chicken and chip nights. :icon_wink

Not much though :icon_bigg :icon_wink

OK, sorry. I must have misinterpreted your previous posts.

Apologies, Newts.

one week in the sunshine sampling the culture of a foreign country, having travelled by plane to spend some quality time with the family unit would be far more beneficial than doing whatever it is they do at a school that has failed them so far in life.
Dare I suggest that the parent who takes their child/ren out of school for a holiday during term time, doesn't place their children's education very high on their list of priorities.
Therefore, I doubt that educating the children whilst on said holiday would rank very high either.

And im glad about it too ,it would be a very boring place if we all did the same things ,agreed on everything ,would it not ???

My comment was a response to your "I don't give a ****". I apologise for not making that clear.

I haven't read the 10 pages of posts since these comments, so please excuse that but it seems some of you actually believe that our education system is an efficient way to prepare our kids for life :081::081::081:.

I would say that Primary schooling is not bad but secondary schooling and in particular university are very inefficient poor systems that need to be brought into the new millenium.

I don't disagree with your premise but it's not realistic. during this time were their no children away with colds or illnesses etc..?

I got as far as this ridiculous comparison and stopped reading, I assume the rest was as farcicle.

I agree ,if a child is not got on as well as they can or are behind then it will not help at all.

we never take them out for the full two weeks ,we only take them out on the last week of the summer term where they don't do that much anyway. any work that is needing doing is done over the summer break when we get back.

we don't do it evey year as we don't do the med every year .

as too our Holland trip next year we are taking them out a week before school is done as my mate has got that two weeks off work and his son has that time off school before his next op .

if it was not for that we would have gone the last week in August and first in September .

I agree with the second quoted paragraph, and I fully believe the education system is failing people.

Me too, but it's for want of trying by some teachers. Unfortunately, as FIF quite rightly said, there are a lot of old god-complex dragons in the system, and too much red tape to allow teachers to be completely effective. I honestly don't know how I would solve it.

I was watching the TV programme "Sex education for the nation" the other day and they are teaching a group of kids using explicit disease photos, how to apply condoms properly etc and the missus said they can't do anything this graphic in real school time, so they can't show the kids the true effect of STI's. The same goes for other subjects, no matter how hard (some of) the teachers want to teach they are held back.

The fact they are going to close all mid-schools and force them to merge with GCSE+A Level colleges mean that there will be even more kids per teacher.

Newts has it very lucky with only 60ish kids at the school, such small classes are very rare nowadays.

Thrash the little batards before assembly then thrash them again before breaktime, again at lunchtime and finish the day with a huge whipping using a thin and wispy cane. This is the only way to teach the children of today.

It never did me any harm, I still love being spanked and being caned and I'm 50 now! :icon_wink

And you know most schools they provide the opportunity to travel to a foreign country with a chance to do it independently without their parents. I went Germany in first year of secondary along with School and it was the first ever time I was set free in a major city to explore.

There's major systemtic problems in schools but hardly taking them from the arena of teaching is going to help matters. Kids themselves are more intelligent than ever - they are only failed by the number making scheme at a top level. TBH, I never thought the education system was supposed to teach kids life lessons - just give them some knowledge to deal with situations in lives.

Kids themselves are more intelligent than ever

Are you basing that on the exam pass statistics that seem to rise every year?

In my experience 'kids' may be more streetwise than previous generations but I see no evidence that the majority of them are generally more intelligent.

The ones that have applied themselves, studied hard and knuckled down to it probably are more intelligent but there seem to be far more of the other, ill educated type around these days if recent job applications I have seen have been anything to go by.

Agree, Spion but we can only use the statistics as an indicator to whether kids are more intelligent. The stats continue to rise, that's the only thing we can define as fact.

Judging by the standard of application forms I have seen in recent years, and from actually interviewing people first hand, I can happily confirm that the intelligence and capability of young people is certainly not improving. I would actually suggest that it has got considerably worse

Standards of English in particular

And that's a FACT

The education doesn't solely come from parents. simply being in an alien environment (even travellling to it) is an education. Being bitten by a mosquito and then suffering from rubbing the bite is an education etc...

:081:

How are you measuring intelligence?

If it's a fact based system then I'd suggest children could become "more intelligent" by sitting next to their computer using google all day without a teacher within 50 miles of them.

I'd say that kids are not more intelligent

I understand that. I just don't see how it can be used as a replacement for their schooling, surely it should be supplementary to it?

You must be seeing the people I reject. Or I the ones you do :icon_bigg

It should be, agreed.

I just don't think 1 or 2 weeks out of education are a great loss and the holiday has potentially great gains.
