Ok, sometimes I exaggerate but the psychology of online personas interests me, "lol" is such a wonderful summative expression that I think a person of any age should be able to use it with impunity. Lot's of sites don't let you put an age older than 100.

It's not so much lol on its own that is the problem, it's when people start spkn in txt spk al da tim dat gets anoyin c wot i mn?

But you haven't done that, probably because at your age a mobile is too far advanced, you are still amazed by the talkies :icon_wink

I'd agree with you there. It'd be like me writing here in French or Spanish . People wouldn't like it because it excludes them. I had the same problem on a work forum (I seem to specialise it pissing people off).

I wish I did understand text speech. It is so much quicker, sadly I would have to spend so much longer trying to work out the abbreviations. I actually love the English language but "lol" is such a precise and expressive "word" and a palindrome to boot.

"lol" is ok when you have a phone and not a keyboard. When you have a keyboard "fcuking laziness" or "fcuking stupidity" are the only reasons that I can think of for this ineptitude, especially when there are so many bloody smileys to choose from.
