I would like to see him stay, He's scoring, if he goes in the jan sales we have a chance to bring someone in, but who ever we bring in will need time to settle in and get used the way we play. the league is that tight I don't think we will have the time to let a player to settle in.

Sorry, but what about the previous two seasons when he's repeatedly done absolutely nothing for club?

Fryatt is playing for a contract. I don't think he gives a monkey's where the contract is as long as it's loads of cash. If Mandy offers him more than anyone else, he'll stay. If Wolves or anyone else waves more cash in his direction, nothing will get in his way of the exit.

I'd like us to make a reasonable offer to him. No more, no less. Until he proves himself to be a good Championship striker, he shouldn't get top dollar. If someone else wants to pay him too much, good luck to them.

Like many other players in recent years, Fryatt has had far more support from fans than his performances have ever deserved. He's done well this season but he's got nothing that Campbell or Dickov couldn't replace. Last night, I thought that Campbell was far and away the best forward on show for us.

I can't stand it when extremely average footballers wildly over inflate their value and importance. MacAuley did it about this time last season and got a fat new contract out of it. I hope we don't fall for the same thing with Fryatt.

I disagree that anyone in our squad would have scored as many goals as Fryatt has this season. Do you really believe Campball or Dickov would have scored as many, and be able to stay fit for the 20 odd games in a row?

IMO he's been fantastic at both scoring and creating goals. Whether the reason for this is because his contact is coming to an end, or because NP is getting the best out of him, or that he's found his level is not really the point. We need him to get promoted.

Just like when Hummmeeee left, how would we ever survive? :102:

Who uttered such nonsense when Hume left?
I certainly don't remember any thing like that being said. It was more like "thank f*ck that useless idiot has gone".

If Matty is playing to earn a ticket out of Leicester, then don't sell him in the January window, keep him until the end of season, and as we get promoted, tell him thank you, now **** off!

He can sign a pre-contract agreement with another club in January. So he won't be playing for a move, it will be a done deal and he might not bother trying for the rest of the season.

It certainly sounds like he's off, though I wouldn't want him to leave before the summer. If that means no fee then so be it.

Walsall are due a substantial sell on fee I seem to recall from when we signed him, so a replacement for him would have to be bought for less than the already reduced fee we'd likely receive for selling him.

Replacing his goal tally for less than we'd sell him for is going to be near impossible.

Meant to say in that, do sell on fees still apply to fees set by tribunal? So, if Fryatt did leave in the summer having signed a pre-contract agreement with someone else, would we still have to give some of that to Walsall? I'm assuming we would, but am unsure..

Sell on fees usually seem to be based on the club getting a percentage of the profit made on a subsequent sale. We won't make a profit on him if we sell in January or if he leaves in the summer, so Walsall may not get anything.

Isn't there a talent/nack/gift for getting into those positions in the first place?

I think so.

There are certain players who have the knack - years ago, these 'forwards' would be referred to as 'poachers' or 'opportunists' - and as you imply, it's largely about having a special ability to be in the right place at the right time.

Fryatt was brought in specifically as a goal scorer and it worked in the first instance - then of course he went into decline for injury and whatever other reasons.

I honestly think Melton is being a bit optimistic if he thinks it would be that easy for us to find another player to slot into Fryatt's role.

Things have been going so well and it will be a shame if we lose Fryatt - but that said I can see him leaving in January partly because we will still get a fee for him at that stage.

I think we need to keep him, getting someone in who is as good as better will be a struggle - remember we aren't loaded and even if we could afford to splash a few million on a quality striker, they most likely wouldn't want to come and play in league 1. I think we should keep Fryatt, not just because hes been instrumental so far this season but because I personally think he will come good at a higher level under the right manager.

Maybe Pearson is that 'right manager'... :102:

I've voted for keep him if possible, like Highland I think any drastic change will unsettle our squad and we just need to get out of this division. You don't become the 2nd or 3rd top scorer in the country through luck, you have to make your chances and finish them.

BN you are a comedian, a very funny man.

I didn't realise there was a wanker of the week competition....:038:

I think Fryatt can score the goals to get us promoted and we've had plenty of strikers that take time to gel or don't ever gel, even though they looked good on previous record, so that means I reckon we should get Fryatt signed up.

If he then scores the goals to get us promoted he then deserves a chance to play in the Championship.

It's replacing the other strikers I'd be more concerned about.

Besides, he's a good revenue generator at the chip shops and casinos. When the credit gets crunched we need to keep the big spenders in the area.

Last season Fryatt never recovered from the way Martin Allen treated him; putting him to train with the kids and making it clear he was not wanted. That and injury seemed to mess up his head. Now he is scoring lots of excellent goals. The problem is that when he is faced with a really easy opportunity and has time to think he panics; when he is under pressure like with his goal yesterday he does well. He needs to stop thinking and start reacting.
We all remember how Campbell was brought at great expense to replace Fryatt and has been a failure. I would rather keep Fryatt than have money to spend on someone who may or may not do the business.
