Nope. Still don't think it's right. I don't give a shit what's legal, nobody appears to take any notice of the government nowadays anyway. Everyone appears to be ignoring the context for our squad right now and how we cannot afford to lose more players.

More than anything, this shows weakness from BR. It's far from the first time that he's had players in the papers socialising in ways that others in the same job simply don't do at the moment. Other managers appear to have better control over their players. Look at how firmly Guardiola reacted when Foden and Grealish were pictured out recently for example.

We have 15 fit players and 5 of them are out together in an obvious environment for speading Covid. It's stupid. It's a complete lack of professionalism. And if any of them test positive over the coming days then that will mean we'll be wanting to postpone matches. If the PL/FA have any sense, they'll show pictures of Maddison downing pints to cheers from darts fans and tell them to feck off and play the kids.

You never see most City players in the papers because most of them are dedicated professionals. Several of this lot have previous. They need to be managed better.

Whose ti say that he isn’t vacated firstly?

Secondly, he can do whatever he wishes (within reason) in his own time. Wrapping people up (general society and professional athletes) in cotton wool will not make this virus go away.

Thirdly, maybe he has BR’s blessing to be there?

Fourthly, he is a bit of a “darling of the press” due to his good looks, perceived England status and exceptional media relationship. You really wouldn’t want some of our players being interviewed very often.

Complete and utter shit.

They are professional footballers, yes. They are also human beings. Going to an illegal party during a legally enforced lockdown is completey ****ing stupid and, quite rightly, those who were there were given the disdain they deserved. Going to the darts with your mates on your day off is perfectly acceptable.

Should we not allow doctors or nurses to go to the darts in case they contract it and can't go to work? They should be protected infinitely more than a footballer. What about fire fighters or Police officers? Should we ban them as well?

The faux 'outrage' currently pervading every two bit sports page and website, whenever a sportsman so much as scratches their arse in public is so pathetic. They're watching the darts for **** sake, not buggering one another in the middle of a Covid ward.
 
Well I work in the public sector and there are hundreds of people who are reliant on me on a weekly basis. Is this going to stop me going out tonight and getting a lap dance off a Covid ridden dwarf in a filthy nightclub in the north west? No chance.

Stop digging,it's perfectly normal behaviour to spend your free time doing what you want with your mates. They were in a VIP area with less contact and any employer who interfered with their free time would be on thin ice.

Brendan would probably be happy to see a few more positive tests that postpone the league games in January and allow us to reschedule when the squad is in a better place anyway.

Yep, I reckon you could be right. No games for two to three weeks and suddenly we'll have 4-5 more players available.
 
I do think it’s unwise of Maddison to give people (and Southgate) another opportunity to question his judgement. I’m not that bothered he’s gone to the darts, but he should probably be a bit more canny given his previous reputation. He should know that this would be spun against him. Southgate, right or wrong, will point to it. I’m certain of that.

I don't know what science you're looking at, but there are clearly some who suffer very badly from this virus, let's not forget that Bertrand looked like a footballer before he caught it

Indeed. I recall tales of a player being balls deep in some Icelandic sort when isolation was actually a thing....all quickly forgiven and he was in the Euros squad pretending to be Miley Cyrus for some reason. Behaviour isn't the problem at all.
 
Southgate is the most successful England manager of my lifetime. I'm inclined to think that if he doesn't like our Maddison, our Maddison ought to have a look at himself before complaining. I certainly think he should deliver more reliably on the pitch before we need to point at anything off of it
