I genuinely don't think it's the personnel. We could play Maddison there and two up front. It's Puel's slow and laboured style that is the problem.

IMO he was bought in to teach us a possession based plan B - a job which Ranieri failed at, he has also failed at it.

Now whether you think he should stay or go is another thing. It's a risk but judging by performances like we've had in the last few weeks we're punching well above our weight in 8th! Losing to Southampton, Cardiff and Newport suggests it's a miracle we're not down there too...

I'd personally get rid, those Chelsea and Man City results were an anomaly based on the fact the top sides will attack you in search of the points and the expectation levels being lesser in those games.

At least a reasoned reply.

I agree the possession based system isn't getting the results we would like but I do think something other than 2 holding players really would offer us something else.

Right now, Maddison is expected to be the one creating for Vardy but that leaves no one in the middle to support Vardy or create the space for him like Shinji would.

Get someone in who can play deeper in the middle but isn't afraid to pass forwards and has a bit of flair about them and I think we'll be much better in games like these where teams are happy to let us play.

Right now, teams just have to keep the wide players quiet, then mark Vardy and Maddison tightly and we are able to offer nothing.

The players look baffled and frustrated at times.

I know how they feel.

The difference is that they are being paid to make a difference on the pitch.

They are as much to blame for some aspects of our play today as the manager

Madison in particular is becoming frustrating

I quite clearly said long term goal, don't let your anger confuse you.

I even acknowledged that short term things aren't great but I would hate for us a tear up the long term plan we appear to be on.

In the short term, perhaps a new leader would help as playing at home in a toxic environment isnt a recipe for success, but for God's sake don't change the long term plan of the young signings and investing in the infrastructure required to sustainably and continually compete at the very top.
Do you think any 'long term plan' will be successful if we are so utterly useless in the short term? All it will do if performances such as these continue is alienate fans and cause us to lose our best players. If our long term plan is to develop young players then our short term ineptitude will simply cause us to lose them. If by young signings you mean players like Diabate, Iheanacho, Ghezzal and the likes then I'd rather us be a little more selective or look for more experienced players that can do what we require of them. Finally, if you think that they are playing in a 'toxic environment' then you have no idea what that term means. There isn't a 'toxic environment' at all. In fact there is no real environment to speak of as the fans have been bored into silence. You persist in defending the indefensible and it's as boring as watching a Clude Puel side trying to break down a team of 10 players who are relegation fodder.

I was really surprised by that game. I didn't think we could be worse than we were against Newport, but we actually were.

I haven't said "Puel Out" before, and I am still not sure. Something is very obviously wrong. I think the conversation about the system and what suits us is interesting, but if every team in the Premier League plays a possession based system, then the league would literally have a linear standing based on money spent and outright quality of the squad.

The way teams like Leicester punch above our weight is precisely NOT playing the same way Man City and Chelsea play. We either need to counter or do a Keegan and just storm forward like mad-dogs and lose 7-3 occasionally.

Long term, Puel might be fine for us to finish 10 or 11th every year (this year is an anomaly because the league is exceptionally weak in the middle) but we'll never do anything exciting. I don't think Puel is the right man in the long term.

Right. I’ve left a proper analysis for a bit of time to really think about it.

My thoughts are that I do not understand what Claude Puel’s objective is. I do not understand why we have to concede before the players are released to play some attacking football.

Puel will say we should have had a draw today. He is possibly right, but it is was a draw, it should have been 0-0. Mendy made two awful mistakes and both led to goals. He will surely be at home today thinking he’s had a shit day at work, as we all do occasionally.

However - until the second half, we played next to no attacking football and didn’t seem to have any intent to do so.

BN put it perfectly earlier with his summary of what he wants. I agree with him.
There isn’t much point funding a stadium expansion if no one wants to watch it - based on today’s showing, am I likely to say to friends that they should spend £50 of their hard earned money on that? Nope. So.. attendances aren’t going to increase like that, regardless of where we are in the league.
Even in the early Pearson Premier league days I would be checking Twitter to do my best to get a ticket. Now I don’t, at all.

It’s very sad, but what we are watching now is not entertaining at all, and that’s what I would like to see.

Remember the days when we left two attackers on the half way line when the opposition had a corner? Now our solitary striker is back in the six yard box for those corners. Infuriating. And Madison has to learn to do the simple things at times instead of acting like a show pony wannabe.

We said most of these things whilst at the match.
Why on Earth don’t we have any outlet from corners at all? Every player is in our box. You can’t counter like that!

It's just hopeless. Utterly hopeless

He can only think of an ultra defensive 4-2-3-1, regardless of the opposition or the state of the game. He's an idiot. No variation, no idea of doing anything else

It was Southampton at home FFS. And they had ten men. Jebus Cripes

He's in the middle of his third transfer window, so if he doesn't have the players to suit his baffling blinkered system (whatever that is), then whose fault is that ?

We stumble and bumble onwards, going nowhere fast.

It's mind-numbingly tragic.

I fall asleep during his interviews and am starting to think I will fall asleep during a match

I fell asleep for a moment at a home game earlier this season. I distracted myself by playing Candy Crush in a couple of others. I started trying to count the empty seats around the ground at another. Loads of people around me are also on their phones and chatting about things other than the match. And the empty seats are increasing. Nobody I know is enjoying being there any more.

I cannot wait to leave the games and left well before the end today. I really wanted to leave at half time and wish I had. I am so tired of watching that absolute shite. I won't do it to myself again this season.

Surely nobody that actually goes to the home games can want this to go on?

Next up Wolves away, Liverpool away, Man United at home, Spurs away

We've already been told that we can't possibly compete with any of those four, so might as well hand over the points now

Today was the first time I’ve heard ‘Puel Out’ shouted from the crowd. Three different people after the final whistle. I’m with them; I’ve watched that same game of football too many times in the last year.

predictions on 'what does the Puel say'? I'm going for something along the lines of 'unlucky to lose it' etc.

I doubt anyone would have guessed...he thinks we were nervous. The second goal was unfair or some shit and Ndidi's finish was good.

The finish that accidentally bounced off him... ****ing hell, he really doesn't know anything at all!

Comments from Southampton fans on the BBC after today's game:

"Feel very sorry for Leicester fans. As a Saints fan, know all too well how Puel’s negative tactics can bring a club down, and stand by he is the main reason we are where we are now having undone all the good work of managers before. Very frustrating how the press and other fans seem to side with Puel".

"As a club we got a lot of grief for sacking Puel but everything about him is so dull. Leicester probably now know how we felt".

"Wonder if we’ll see the Leicester fans who spent most of last year harping on about how Saints had ideas above their station for sacking Puel, and our loss was their gain? Think the penny has dropped, regressive negative football - you deserve better".

"Saints finally waking from the sleeping sickness of Puel"

"He plays the most dire football of any overaeas manager I've seen in the premier league!!"

"Despite being in top 7 before play I bet now the Leicester fans see why we ended the management of Claude Puel".

"as a Saints season ticket holder I saw the life sucked out of the team thanks to Puel's tactics. We pay good money to be inspired by our teams. Results are not everything..sure, but it is the way you play that lifts your fans.. Unfortunately there are more "Hughsies" than "Hasenhuttl's" out there on the replacement market so tread carefully Leicester !!"

"I support Southampton and Puel’s “brand” of football is intolerable. The lazy view of “be careful what you wish for” is reserved for non-football attending “fans”. Saints have never been great or won things. I don’t care where we finish I just want to see good football because a ticket costs a lot. Puel takes the joy out of the game, I’m glad he’s gone".

"Welcome to the Puel connundrum. He was EXACTLY the same at Southampton. Turned an attacking team into one which was happy to defend every week for a 0-0 draw. Its that period we're struggling to come back from".

And we should act now in ripping the plaster off while we still have some decent players left.

Yeah but if we get rid of Puel then we can only appoint that bloke whose name is a bit like the man city/west ham bloke or mark Hughes. That's genuinely the only options we have for some reason.

Therein lies one of many conundrums.
Many calling for Claude's head (recently he certainly hasn't helped himself), however I can't see any viable and realistic alternatives being put forward.

(That doesn't mean I think he should carry on ad infinitum)

I'm not sure of his remit from those upstairs, but they can't like how the atmosphere is turning just a few months after everyone was so united.
