It's a funny old game

Stupid decision to start with Fryatt, who clearly isn't even a quarter fit, let alone half fit. Crazy

Even more stupid decision to start with King who quite clearly isn't Championship standard while he's got a hole in his arse. Bordering on insane

Waghorn's debut the best I've seen in a City shirt for some time
N'Guessan looks good, and Wellens potentially masterful
Howard won everything, as ever

Could have had six in the second half, to be honest

They passed it well, but utterly toothless up front

Could be a fun season......

Did you watch the same game as me? He was terrible first half!

Totally disagree, i think Morrison had a good game, he made 3 or 4 crucial interceptions and set up a guilt edge goalscoring opportunity.

Oh, we also look like a team that will struggle to finish every match with 11 players on the pitch. A less lenient ref would have waved a lot more cards around.

I've always stood up for King...... He was ****ing crap today though.

It's great reading this thread.
It's put a big smile on my face to read all the positive stuff about the new players.

Keane's overrated in the same way as Paul Ince. Let's see how he does without the huge sums of money that he had at Sunderland. Remember his walkout during the 2002 World Cup. When the going get's tough, he just walks away.

erm...yeah...great, but why on Earth are you quoting me? I haven't mentioned Roy Keane

Who are you ranting at? Nobody has mentioned Ipswich? :102:

I think a couple of times Ipswich away has been mentioned as a 'tough fixture'. I can see his point, there is no reason to suggest it will be any tougher than other games this season. Probably a historical thing about Ipswich away, and bad memories of 2002

Was just about to post the same thing! Not saying that we are the full package yet as we've seen plenty of false dawns over the past few years, but I definitely think that on our day we could beat anyone in this league and it could be a very exciting season.

Mark my words, N'Guessan is going to be a star this season.

I didn't think we were any worse than Swansea in the first half. I agree that King was a passenger and Fryatt was clearly not match fit. I don't think that the substitutions were great tactics as it was fairly clear to everyone watching what had to be done.

I don't think Wellens really had a chance to shine in the first half as he was getting no support from King, Dyer rarely tracked back and both he and Oakley were playing too narrow. When Oakley moved to the centre and N'Guessan and Dyer played wider in the second half he had more support, more space and options available to show what he could really do.

Waghorn really did give a Rooney type performance with his energy, ability and the fact that he seems to enjoy knocking defenders on his back. Given the way he plays he could lose some time with suspensions, which is probably the only way Fryatt will get a chance in the starting line up. That may be unfair on Fryatt given his performance last season, but if Waghorn maintains this level of performance he must be the first name on the teamsheet.

Finally, I think Joe Mattock made the right choice in deciding to leave the club. Berner's performance today was very good, especially in the second half.

Waghorn was absolutely immense, I understand why Pearson didn't start him, it would've been a gamble to drop him straight in, but when he came on he was incredible. He has the best attributes of Howard and Fryatt - pace, power, positioning, awareness, toughness - absolutely brilliant. If he carries on like this then I'd be all for using the Mattock money to buy him.

Of course, because everyone would take a poxy 2m for a player at 19 who's clearly got that much quality :icon_roll:icon_roll

How much did deplh sell for recntly again?

Brilliant result.

1 down loads to go. Encouraging stuff.

It will be very interesting to see if Pearson makes adjustments to his starting lineup now. It is certainly starting to look like Nicky Adams has a bit of talent.
