Def not overstocked. It sounds like you might have bought a sick or shy fish.

Did it hide a lot? Was its behaviour unusual in any way?

A shy fish !! How do you solve it,take it to a confidence building classes

Depends if contains Nitrosomonas and Nitrobacter.

Adding milk isn't the best idea.

I think it really depends on which flavour activia you add. The peach is a definite no-no

Don't be ridiculous, a moral building day out paintballing is the way forward, everybody knows that.

He should bring it up here, there a couple of very friendly Mackeral that meet every Tuesday Night in the Marine Hotel Bar,few beers a few laughs,I'm sure they wouldn't mind if it helped him build some self confidence up.Perhaps a few trips out to the other side of the harbour

But joking aside it is a serious matter this fish alienation.I was told a tale about a poor lonely Sea Bass that got so low so low that it was put on Prozac but to no avail, the poor lonely sad creature took its own lifev when swimming infront of a Trawler...awful turn of events...upset a shoal of Herring no end it did

Stories like that make you realise there is no Cod. (ahem)

Greedy little feckers the lot of them, 2 clown fish, koran angel, purple tang, and a spotty one that name escapes me at the moment.

240 litre tank so not over stocked i dont think.

The number/size of fish that a tank can sustain is better related to the surface area of the water rather than its volume.

Only if you're talking about natural diffusion of O2/CO2.

Other than that, that's totally wrong.

OK, well I'll type it now in case I don't get chance later.

We went through all the possibilities:

It is not biologically or chemically possible to raise the pH that high from anything you will find in an aquatic shop, which we knew.

"So Melton, we have two options: 1) The test kit is faulty, or 2) Your mate is a thicko? If the test kit isn't faulty, tell him to hand all his fish back"

I then found myself trying to correct the situation, Newts. And that you weren't my mate, just somebody who I knew through circumstance.

I now have a trade reputation to rebuild :icon_lol:

Well thanks :icon_evil ill buy a new test kit tomorrow.

thanks anyway ,im taking a sample of the water to be tested as well ,as i buy in the salt water ,instead of mixing my own .

Just got back from DOBBIES ,WATER TEST RESULTS where...... not writing the full report not got time.

They tested both the tank water and the barrels of salt water that i have.

Tank had a high Ph as stated before.

the barrel salt water was fine.

Then we looked at the test kit (brought from dobbies) ,now this is where we found the problem as you know you get ph up and down in the kit plus the ppm and so on .

Not mine both where ph up ffs but the label on the bottle said down on one the other up .

They have taken the kit back and refund me the £50 it cost plus they have given me a new kit.

Ph is now 8.3 so all is well

thanks for your help though .

It sounds like you have a pH buffer, not a pH test kit. A pH test kit doesn't alter your pH, it tests it. I believe that's why they call it what they do. That's certainly that case of our brand.

Ours retail for about £5.00, not £50.00, as do most of our competitors.
