Yes, forgot about McArthur. Thought at the time it was pretty shoddy. Couldn't understand why it was either him OR Cambiasso. Couldn't we afford both?

Pearson didn't help himself on that occasion either. Hammond was looking likely to leave (Reading began talks supposedly) but a couple of good performances later, he was kept on. Pearson did the same with St Ledger which in the medium term of the season held us back.

And what a great job he did with the Ulloa deal. It rolled on for a month and we ended up paying the requested transfer fee. Cambiasso's signing became an on-off saga. We cocked up a deal for Fraizer Campbell and then acted appalling when it came to signing James McArthur.

Ulloa: Cobblers. We negotiated with Brighton for weeks because he was NPs first choice striker. Brighton wanted £10m for him if you recall. We eventually settled at £7m. What the fecks wrong with that? It's ridiculous to blame this on NP or TR.

Cambiasso: Cobblers. We made him an offer early in the summer but his brother and agent made it clear that he wanted to wait until late on before committing his future to anyone. He had offers from USA, Argentina, Spain and Italy too. He also had some negotiations with Spurs earlier in the summer. It's ridiculous to blame this on NP or TR.

Campbell: Cobblers. He was made equivalent offers from Palace and us and chose Palace. This is a perfectly rational decision and it is a massive stretch to decide that this was TRs fault or NPs fault.

McCarthy: Cobblers. He was clearly the back up plan if Cambiasso decided to go elsewhere and it was perfectly sensible that we did this. The fact that Wigan chose to go public about the proposed deal for their own means cannot be blamed on NP or TR. As soon as the Cambiasso deal was agreed, we pulled out.

Irrelevant of the reasons. Anytime you fire the man responsible for transfers 2 weeks before the January window...well...that's not ideal.

It is if you're not confident that he won't once again **** things up.

Another possibility could be that Pullis is bought in to work along side NP?

Yep, I can absolutely definitely see that happening. It's almost guaranteed to happen, our Nige would love that.
In fact, I reckon you'd have to be a complete mentalist if you thought that that was the single most absurd ****ing notion that has ever been imagined, ever.

Can I take it that you agree with me then?

'He who smiles in adversity has thought of someone else to blame'.

Guessing - I would have thought that the policy/ restrictions that led to the disastrous (lack of) recruitment over the summer was a collective responsibility.

They were off their heads to sign an ineffective winger who couldn't get into a seriously poor Villa side - and a 35 year old central defender from the Championship - you couldn't make it up. Then - and even more inportantly - there were the target transfers they managed to put off joining the club.

They are collectively responsible and that includes the owners.

Now that a scapegoat has been selected, I don't see the point of sacking Pearson at this stage....and I certainly don't see the point of spending money in January for a Championship season that doesn't start till August.

Now, now. You're the one re-writing history. You can check back to see these comments from various club personnel about each arrival if you wish. Are you suggesting that they were all lying?

Oh come on, BN. You know the complete shite that is spouted when we sign players - it's all cobblers. Please tell me that you don't believe that anyone at the Club seriously thought that Carl Cort was a 'major transfer coup' when he was signed ? Of course not. Everyone knew he was wank, but he was hailed as a footballing God. It's gone on for years - whoever is signed is built up in a ridiculous way to appease the fans and the press. It's part and parcel of modern super-soaraway-soccer

Fact is we signed a load of shit, and nowhere near enough quality for what was needed. Despite what some may think I think the owners are going to spend money in January, in a last desperate throw of the dice. If they think Robinson was in some way responsible, then they weren't going to let him feck it up again. I genuinely don't know if he was to blame in any way, but he's got the push for some reason and that seems the most plausible - either that or he's just an obnoxious racialistical cock
