Speculation The hysterical and annoying, but traditional, totally unfounded winter 2021/22 rumours thread

Several PL clubs have approached Eriksen and he's expected to make a decision this week. Given that we made an offer for him this time last year, you wouldn't be surprised if we were one of those clubs in talks.

This guy at his best is world-class. Ajax, Spurs, Inter, 109 international apps, goals and assists everywhere he's gone. Arguably in his prime too and no transfer fee.

Obviously I realise the risks and maybe he's not quite the same as before, but perhaps he is and that's worth the risk; if the terms are favourable, bring him in.

Brentford are the one club now named as making Eriksen an offer - 6 months with an option of a further year.

Now I need in Brentford's case, that 6 month offer is probably more tied to their league status potentially rather than any reflection on Eriksen. But if that's the best offer on the table, I'd assume others are concerned about fitness.

...and insurance??

I dunno, seriously.

Quite a few Danish friends at Brentford too.

He's a good player but where would he play for us as surely he would take Maddisons place/role.

Great player but I believe that our apparent lack of funds for players and wages would be better spent on defence or another wide option as Barnes and Lookman aren't enough on their own.

Benkovic moving on is a sign we probably will bring someone in as it gives us a space in the PL squad but I don't think it will be Eriksen.

Ooh Danish Friend!

No way we should go for Eriksen. Not a position that we are missing players in and without wishing to sound insensitive i'm not sure i agree with going back into top level sport when something so devastating has happened on the pitch as having died on the pitch. I can understand why it's a yearning of Eriksen's but i'm not sure it's the right move to be playing in the Premier League.
They recommend you have the implanted defibrillator if you've had an unexplained heart attack. To choose not to have one is personal choice - which is to be entirely respected. But then to choose, and for a club to encourage you with a contract, to put yourself inthe most pressurised environment in world sport is something that doesn't feel right to me.
Sorry if this view offends anyone

Hasn't he had that fitted? I could be wrong, but I thought the fact that he had one was why he couldn't play in Italy?

Don't apologise for having a reasonable view, people choose to take offence, you're not being a twat, you've said nothing wrong. I get what you're saying but I guess he's checked a million times with a million specialists and it seems they've all assured him it's fine.

Perhaps the romantic in me saw him making a comeback and smashing it for whichever team he plays, and frankly I think we need more creativity. Perhaps it is wrong for us then again as Madders is on fire right now. In the summer, I think we need to sign a winger. Emmanuel Dennis would be my pick.

Doesn't surprise me and, tbh, I get it. Sure, that we need someone is beyond obvious but it's not like you can pop out to a supermarket and buy one off the shelves.

(Though maybe we ought sign the shelf itself, that'd be faster than Vestergaard, and probably more solid. You know, I used to chuckle at Maguire's lumbering but he's Usain Bolt compared to Veste)

We're a salesman's dream. Everyone knows we're in need, the prices go up accordingly. Nah, I get it. Make do until the summer when Youri will be off and we'll have some dosh in the kitty. Hate to say it but I see a wisdom in that.

Sadly true.

This season isn't likely to result in a fantastic finish of a trophy win or top 4 spot, so can see the logic in not wanting to go and spend overinflated fees in January - particularly when it's often harder to get first choice targets midway through the season.

We're good enough to finish around the middle of the league and possibly secure a Europa League spot (either through league or a cup) with what we've got*, so can see why we wouldn't go and spend another £10-20m on someone who might not make that much difference in the grand scheme of things.

That signing could make the difference between qualifying for EL and not though so would've been good to have someone in, but maybe shows the value of that to the club.
