Speculation Wes Morgan

Why are we assuming anyone's out?

Because it simply doesn't add up that a squad with barely enough players to fill the bench is going to spend a million on one of the few positions we're more than comfortable in.

Morgan will only be coming if he's likely to be first choice. His record over the last few seasons for Florist is good. To be honest, over the last few games against the trees, he's the one player that has stood out as decent and I'm very happy with this move.

But if he's going to be one of the two starters, which three out of Mills, St.Ledger, Tunchev and Bamba miss out?

If we assume Tunchev is yesterday's man, that leaves at least one other for the chop. Blackburn were strongly linked with Bamba in the summer and look set to lose Samba so 2+2=4? Signing Morgan for about £800k and selling Bamba for circa £3m would be excellent business. And that is despite me thinking that Bamba has been a good player for us.

I think Mills and St.Ledger are NP type defenders and he will be happy with adding Morgan to make up that threesome. I can't imagine he's at ease with the approach from Bamba. He's not really suited to an NP team.

A florist supporting acquaintance has just been blubbing to me on Facebook, reckons he's the best Centre Half they have had in the last 10 years, totally gutted he's leaving, especially to us.

I enjoyed the chat.

question marks over Tunchev's fitness, possibly Bamba into midfield, that only leaves 3 with Morgan.

Agree with that - unless of course NP has in mind to play Bamba in midfield - which I doubt very much. I'm a great supporter of Pearson but he's not really adventurous enough to try that. It was asking for trouble to create a situation by bringing Mills, Bamba and SSL - such duplication won't work at this level. Pearson is too experienced to have three central defenders who are all demanding regular first team football unless of course he has in mind to play a team of defenders! With respect to Alex bringing in Morgan has been done as the first instalment of some sort of wider manouvre of players in and out of the club. I can't imagine that Pearson is too keen on the notion of having a footballer at the centre of his defence so I think its bye bye Bamba.

Personally I think it would be a big mistake to let Bamba go. Even if you ignore his considerable entertainment value, after Scmeichel he is possibly our best player. I would hope that Pearson could work out a strategy/system that allowed Bamba to play regularly.

If it was Mills,SSL and Morgan covering the back two CB slots then I would be very happy with Danns, Bamba and Wellens covering the middle two CM slots.

Tunchev? Chester?

St. Ledger is more than comfortable on the ball as well.

If we were offered a decent fee for Bamba (which I doubt we have) I really don't see the issue in letting him go. Am getting irritated by the midfield talk though, I haven't seen as often as many on here, but he doesn't look like a midfielder to me. It didn't work for Kisnorbo and I doubt it would work for him.

If Bamba never gets a game for City in midfield whilst Pearson is manager, it is because he went out and signed proper midfielders who regularly play in that position. Not because he isn't adventurous to play a defender in midfield. Playing him there is from the Megson school of attacking football, I wouldn't fancy seeing that again even if I did enjoy my trip to Villa Park to see Right-back FC.

If NP was seriously considering using Bamba in midfield when he returns from the ANC, don't you think it would have happened before now? It's a big stretch to think that this is realistic.

Bamba is marketable and he's got no great attachment to us. If he knew Blackburn wanted him as they undoubtedly did in the summer, I think he'd have moved there happily had he been allowed to. Despite the last few months not being the best for Rovers, they still have a far better chance of being in the Premier League next season than we do.

Bamba is the sort of defender in a Sven team. He was never really suited to NP and vice versa.

Pearson can't be too happy with his options at the back, as he has been linked with about five central defenders.

I wonder if he is trying to move one of the high earners. I'd imagine both Mills and Bamba are on very good money.

Shame, I'm not sure the centre of defense is an issue.

But the spelling of the word "defence" is an issue.

I am not sure I am with this Bamba is a footballer, not a Pearson type of player stuff. If Pearson is big, tough 'hoofers' at the back and big, tough 'crunchers' in the middle, then why is he not replacing Gallagher and Dyer, who are footballers not fighters?

Being linked with 5 means nothing, he's only signing one by the looks of it.
