Well all of this is right over my head...

Re. a former crap manager: one theory doing the rounds about why certain fans seem to be superglued to him is that (and I know this sounds ludicrous but...) they were actually looking forward to seeing REAL (as in 'true' not as in Real Madrid) football in Division One.

This is interesting for two reasons. Firstly it showed what they really thought would happen under Levein (there would be no Kelly like recovery). Secondly if they were that keen to experience the elements standing on empty crumbling terraces why not just go to Vicky Park on Sunday morning (OK no terraces, no botulistic pies)?

Care to comment anyone?
I doubt that's true TBH. I personally don't know anybody that would want to see us in the league below, apart form the f***t scum that inhabit my area.

Also, I can't imagine people liking Avril just for that reason. Some people are a tad more patient than me and see better in people. I just thought Avril was an arrogant twat that could not see his own mistakes and still to this day he doesn't believe he made any.

Glad he's gone. I want to look forward not back. So need Avril to shut up, fook off and stop winding me up

I think you've made all that up. Can you point to any proof that some people wanted us to go down?

Also I think you'll find there are very few crumbling terraces around even in the lower divisions these days.

I would rather have gone down than abandon the sensible constraints that the Club were applying - and I am sure that I said so at the time. The Club had to find a level which we could sustain and then to build from there.

That's not to say that I am not delighted by the on-field improvement that the change of manager brought and the fact that we are staying up.

I recall at the time, many (Edit: Some) on here indicated they would enjoy visiting other grounds as well, but at no point (i don't think) was this a prefered option. just making the best of a bad situation.

I think there are one of two lines you can take on Levein.

Line one is he had a good plan to sort out the 'mess' and simply ran out of time.

Line two is that he was pretty clueless about the club and the Championship, couldn't seem to motivate the players, kept changing his plans and in the end was just waiting for something to turn up.

A similar situation existed at a small shitty Nothern club called Newcastle United. They got rid of their dour Jock and look what happened. Won't find too many Gallowgate Enders saying Souness was just sorting out Robbo's mess.

LCFC's recovery under Kelly was even more dramatic yet we have a sizeable body of fans saying that this would have happened anyway under Levein even though there is nothing in the stats to suggest that it would.

I would be very grateful if someone could enlighten me about why some LCFC fans seem compelled to worship a manager whose tenure was an abject failure.

Melton, you seem to know what's what around here, what's your take on this 'May' madness?

slight over-reaction don't you think? Only a fool can mistake patience for worship surely?

Don't forget the culpability of the Board, who appointed CL and the journeymen predecessors!
At the time, the appointment of CL looked like a very astute piece of business and just about everyone was very happy with it. So I don't think you can blame the board for not having a crystal ball - sometimes things just don't work out, and when it came down to it, they acted and got rid of him. Not soon enough for some, and too soon for others, but they stuck their necks out and did something, so fair play to them for that.

As for "journeyman predecessors".... who were they? Adams? Taylor? Neither were "journeymen" when we appointed them, they were, in the LCFC tradition, young, and to some degree unproven managers with potential, just like CL. Just like Brian Little, or MON...

Having a go at the board is the easiest thing in the world. IMO they don't always warrant it, and I think, on the whole, the club has been run reasonably well since administration. At least we're on an even keel financially, which looked pretty unlikely a few years ago.

:038: :038: Well said desert.

Though I must question what the hell Desert thinks he's doing talking sense on here, keep it on the edge Desert, no rational views here!:icon_lol:

Are you going to tell us your source 'on the street', or are you going to continue making things up?

If you're going to make allegations I expect you to substantiate them.

Come on Chandler, you have to do better than this.

Let's just say that on another board, wholly unrelatd to this one, a couple of posters at the beginning of this year mentioned they had caught sight of one of your posts that um...how shall I put this...SUGGESTED you were looking forward to sampling the ambience of lower league football and that there weren't too many protests from other members.

Eeh...they put a fair bit o' muck in their pies round Boundary Park, Webmaster.

Kelly, why come to a forum and within 7 posts starts stirring and slagging everyone off? Whilst I'm sure webbo won't sink to your level and ban you, I, and many people on here (Melton ;) ) would not have the patience to put up with you

Fair point Beighton. But Webmaster did ask me to 'put up or shut up' re. my 'allegations.'

And whilst I disagree with the almost perverse sentiments shown by some LCFC fans towards Mr Levein (why do you call him 'Avril' Melton?) I have not insulted or slagged off anyone who holds them.

I just want to get to the bottom of this most enduring mystery...

So some idiot on another site misunderstood something I wrote, and you believed them.

There was a discussion about what would happen if we were relegated. I said I'd enjoy going to some different places. I never believed we would have been relegated (even with CL in charge), and I didn't say I wanted us to get relegated (I made that clear in the same thread).

I was trying to point out that if we were relegated it wouldn't be the end of the world, success isn't everything, and some of us would still enjoy going to games. I'm sure there would be people who didn't bother going to the games, but they're not proper supporters, you have to take the rough with the smooth.

It's not 7 posts though, he's been here before, and been banned for his abusive behaviour.

A ban that's never been lifted, so I could ban him now if I wanted. But I want to see what bollocks he comes up with next.

Please tell me you are kidding and you actually get this joke?

You never "put up" at all, you just recycled what you had read elsewhere, and came here without any evidence to support it.

Sod it, it's 10 to 1 in the morning and by arguing with you I'm sure I'm only pandering to your whims.

Have a good one webbo
