Didn't you want a journalist sacked because he said Wes Morgan was a smart guy? I think Gary has done even less than that.

Gary Lineker is a narcistic hypocrite, all he had to do was come out and state it was his opinion and not in any way endorsed by the BBC. He could have also come out and thanked his supporters namely Wright and Shearer and stressed they did not have to put their jobs on the line for the sake of his opinion.

Instead he is happy for everyone to wave the banner for him and possibly see the end of a programme that has been running for generations, it is sad to see the conflict and yelling both sides on this. Still at least no one is talking about the big geo political issues that are about to cause financial and security devastation.

I do not agree with linekers opinion but he should absolutely be able to air it, he knows exactly what he is doing here and has taken absolutely no responsibility for what he stated. Can someone explain how he has made the link to the UK being like Nazi Germany in 1939, genuinely I would love someone to show me where I am missing the salient points that link the two together!

Yes I do disagree with Hitchens. I've read Peter for many years because he's an original thinker. He used to change his mind - after all, he went from the socialist workers party to being very conservative - but now I very rarely find things to agree with him on.

Just because the Nazis called themselves 'socialist' doesn't make them so. There are some similarities between extremes on the left and right in terms of population control. However, there are also many, many differences. The poem above posted by ted to me is a perfect illustration of the point Lineker was making and why it was an entirely valid one.

Saved me a lot of energy, I went and did other things instead of pretending to believe he was engaging in good faith. Going by what ensued here it would seem my assumptions were right so I’m ok with it.
 
Hang on it’s coming back, something about Peter Cook or Dudley Moore being struck down by Jebus for teh blasphemes.

Durley Moore and Peter Cook deserved to be dead because he said naughty words. Turns out they were right about the BBC by all accounts.

Should have been the Thread of the Year.

Nope, he did once say that Dudley Moore deserved to die from cancer for being profane. ‘Teh’ is an often used word on here when being silly, started by the long gone Macky I think. ‘Teh pixels’

Ah fair enough, I just had no idea what was going on. I am starting to appreciate Cook and Moore. I think it may have been yourself that posted the **** youtube clip, my colleagues thought I'd lost the plot in the office. Glad I had my earphones in for that one!
And blimey, Macky is a name I've not seen around for a long time! I wonder if he, Melts and Newts went and started their own forum.

I was brought up on it, something my dad listened to on records when he was a teenager was then on the car stereo on the way to my first games at Filbo in the Taylor era. Terrible and brilliant parenting at the same time.
