Waiting game for Mandaric
MK Dons appear to be stonewalling Leicester City in their efforts to hold on to manager Paul Ince.
City chairman Milan Mandaric is still waiting patiently for a response to his request to speak to the former Manchester United, Liverpool and Inter Milan midfielder about the possibility of him filling the Walkers Stadium managerial vacancy.
But, so far, no permission has been granted and Mandaric said: “I thought they would have told me something by now but I understand how difficult a decision it may be for them.
“He has been linked with the Blackburn Rovers job and I think they would find it hard to deny him the chance to talk to a Premiership club, the same way I could not turn down Gary Megson talking to Bolton.
“But, in this case, we will be in the same division next season and obviously letting their manager go to talk to a rival who will be competing against them makes it not so simple and I can see how that might be a problem for them.
“Paul Ince is only one of several I hope to be talking to this week before hopefully making a decision by the weekend and, if I do not get permission, then I have other options to consider. No-one is favourite in spite of what speculation might say.”
The City chairman has had a period of coolly and calmly gauging the situation following Ian Holloway's departure but knows that he needs to make his move over the next few days.
He said: “It is important for me to now get the new manager in and start work towards next season.
“Until that happens, we do not know which of our players will be wanted by the new manager, how many might want to leave and how many we will need to buy in the transfer market.
“None of these questions can be answered until we have the new man in place and that is why I am working hard to make it happen.”
