Rooney missed a penalty! My heart was in my mouth there... C'mon 3-1!
But how long was nani on the floor before he decided to roll and get the Peno??

Anyone else find the decision by Dowd to book Cole for clearly fouling Hernandez in the box yet not giving a peno rather strange?

I thought that was downright dreadful officiating.

Bit like our ref this morning for a goal....

I can only guess he booked him for some verbal or language reason, rather than the foul.

It was a nasty tackle, still, cole smashed his nuts on the goal post later, lovely stuff

Nope, it was great officiating I thought. It's only a penalty if the foul is committed when the ball is in play and the ball had already gone out of play for a goal kick when Cole actually made contact and fouled him, however a player can be given a booking for incidents like that when the ball is out of play (as is seen by many off the ball scuffles earning red and yellow cards).

So it was a correct call by the referee in both the booking and the decision to give a goal kick and not a penalty.

Won £54 from a £4 bet at kick off on 3-1 :)

Up from £5 at the start of the season to £86 now. Woop.

A few season ago, at the Walkers, the Ipswich goalie manhandled Savage in the box. The ball was out of play. (a corner had been given)
We got a penalty.
Explain that.
A foul in the box, is a foul in the box. The ball might be out of play, but the game wasn't dead.
Cole fouled Hernandez, it should have been a penalty.

(Maybe he was going easy On Rooney, didn't want him to miss another;))

Pretty sure it was the ref in our game that you use as an example that's in the wrong there.

If a goal kick/corner has already been given, then the play is dead and a penalty can't be given.

In that case the ref was wrong in that instance. The ball has to be in play for a penalty to be awarded. Same reason he can't give a penalty for pushing or fouling in the box that goes on before a corner/free-kick is taken.

LAW 14 - THE PENALTY KICK

A penalty kick is awarded against a team that commits one of the ten
offences for which a direct free kick is awarded, inside its own penalty
area and while the ball is in play

Surely there is a fine (/subjective) line if a player fouls an opposing player just moments after he shoots, even if the shot misses and the ball is technically out of play.

As with everything else, it's the referee who decides. If he says the ball is in play, it's in play; if he says it's out, it's out. There's nothing technical about it.

Lovely work from Ferguson to slow manipulate footballing figures in believing clubs like United should have their own exclusive TV deals, whilst at the same time appearing as if he has concerns for the fans.

Chelsea 4 up at Bolton after 25 minutes. The keeper for Bolton is dreadful, much much shitter than Weale.

One of my mates has just met Raul in London, lucky bastard, heading to QPR apparently..

Yeah I understand it's word of mouth and not much substance, but you never know!
