Why does it feel like an anti-climax?
Probably because it is?

Maybe he is /was putting together a list of his ideal back room staff, he will need a good support network to succeed.

Although I understand the disappointment, most on here were disappointed with CR and look how well that turned out!

Remember though our owners are not sentimental so Shakey must have a robust plan in place otherwise I am certain he wouldn't have been offered the role.

Come on folks, a bit of faith and positivity please, remember we could be Forest, Derby or (god forbid), Coventry.

I thought at the time CR was a good appointment...just adding that to be smug like.

There's a huge difference between disappointment over employing an experienced journeyman manager who could be past it and employing someone whose only experience and (brief) success as manager was fuelled by the chicken burger propelled wave of excitement that followed the players getting their own way.

Club had four months to sort this out and we still fanny about for a month after the season?

Then just give it to him?

Man City have already recruited a handful of players and we've sat around with our fingers up our arses. Tin pot.

I'm actually pretty arsed off with this. I try to be a bit level-headed most times, but this saga has been crap.

Got Sammy Lee and Alan Irvine written all over it.

Yes I get that like.

He deserves a chance and to be fair I think we are perhaps underestimating his input into both the great escape season and THAT season.

Can't wait for us to line up against all of the 'big teams' as though we've already lost.

Let's be honest about this. He's got the gig because he has been here for ages, the players like him, and the owners haven't got a scooby what else to do.

None of those reasons are good enough. The form improved sufficiently under him because the players upped their performances in reaction to the vitriol aimed at them when Ranieri went. As soon as safety was assured, they went back to being shit again.

Shakespeare has no management experience, he's admitted that it wasn't a role he had ever aimed for, he's far too close to the players, he's got the tactical intelligence of a gnat, and he'll be completely unattractive to any potential new signings. You can immediately write off any chance of us signing players like Sigurdsson for example.

It's a shocking decision that will almost certainly end in tears. If he makes it to Xmas, I'll be stunned. Feck knows what we'll do then mind given as there's nobody else in the line of succession that they can turn to.

In his shoes, I'd have done exactly the same as him. Who wouldn't? He's been given a contract that will set him up for life now irrespective of what he does. But I truly doubt whether, deep down, even he feels that he's up to it. If I were a player at the club with the potential to do better, I'd be on the phone to my agent tonight to get me the feck out of the club. Everton (for example), now looks like a major improvement on staying here.

Sometimes it is possible to see the terrible outcome of a decision before events unfold to prove it. Like May getting elected tonight.

Don't get all this "why has it taken so long bollox". The season ended two weeks ago. Everyone then went on the Monaco trip and probably enjoyed a few days R&R. Then it's to the negotiating table for a couple of days, then to the lawyers for a few days to iron out the details and here we are.

FIF pretending to be ITK about who has been approached is easily the funniest thing I've ever read on here. STILL salty about the Ranieri sacking, still trying to discredit the owners.

On the appointment itself, I think he had to be given the chance. He had one major challenge last season and that was to turn around a sinking ship which he did with remarkable efficiency. It got a bit crap towards the end but that might just have been the common 'on the beach' type thing. Ye jury is still well and truly out but it's the right decision for me.

I think it's obvious that he wasn't our preferred choice otherwise it would have been sorted sooner, which makes the decision even more worrying.

He has been heavily involved in the clubs rise and success, and I sincerely hope he successful, however, as has been mentioned he will struggle to attract players, it looks as though a number of key players may leave, he lacks experience, and he doesn't seem to have the complete confidence of the owners.

Set up to fail IMO

Hope I'm wrong.

Were we only allowed to look for a replacement for Ranieri once the season ended? It's been ****ing ages since he left and as BN suggests it's quite likely they've not had any clue. Got to hope the players who wanted him in stick around.

I'm really not sure.

I will however say that a major reason as to us falling apart at the end of the season was the injuries and the fatigue. We were dead men walking by the last game.

The club agreed to give Shakespeare until the end of the season. I'm sure they weighed up all the options in that time but there's nothing in the time it has taken since the end of the season, considering they were all away together for a big chunk of it, that suggests this was anything other than an ordinary contract negotiation.

Good luck Shakey! I think on the whole he may just about deserve it and now is the time to get behind him and the team and see what happens. Sometimes the negativity on here is down right depressing! Let's be positive about this and hope his first six games were a better indication of his capability than the last few. Blue Army!
