You seem to be confusing the concept of nation with the concept of country. The country of the United Kingdom of Great Britain & Ireland was created in 1800 when Great Britain was united with Ireland. Great Britain itself had been created in 1707 when England and Wales was united with Scotland.

So, while SAF could be said to have managed away from his nation or his people, he has never managed away from his country. Apart from when he took Scotland to Mexico '86, but I don't think that is what you were objecting to.
