I don't want to be all 'pre-season' optimist but I don't understand the negativity. We have the same squad that made the play offs last season and at times looked the best in the league. It's a young and mostly likeable squad which even contains a couple of our own youth products knocking on the first team door. Okay, we had a horrendous final third of the season last time around but we're just going to have to hope that our players and management can learn from the experience.

Am I alone in being pleased that long term financial stability has been chosen (albeit under duress) over spunking millions we don't have on a desperate scramble for promotion? As much as going up would be lovely I'd much rather have a club to support in a decade's time than have a one or two year pop at the top flight. For what it's worth I think a play off push is possible and, given that the squad is the same, a top six finish should be the benchmark for success.

I believe it's Pearson's last contracted year at the club? I was one of those calling for his head at the end of the season but keeping him on now looks eminently sensible. A top six finish with little resource to strengthen should get him an extension, whilst failure to achieve such allows us to part ways without the requirement to compensate.

Good post!

Hallelujah.

Rule 1: ALL pre-season games are all completely shit and mean absolutely feck all. They always have been, and they always will be

Rule 2-100: See Rule 1

Too much common sense; dr.

What rule states we must panic about them anyway? I assume that is a rule?

And 3 went up who definitely finished above us last season.

The question was whether we'll be competitive or not. I see no evidence we won't be. Unless by competitive you mean beating (or matching) a team that just spent £50m.

I wasn't being serious. It's a shite reason that we hear every season with claims that the league is going to be more difficult than the previous season.

I'm not going to hit out at Leicester on the back of the Monaco game, as that was a match that was always going to be very difficult to take an accurate measurement from.

What has concerned me though, is the lack of goals we've been scoring in the friendlies prior to that. We've kept clean sheets, which is all well and good, but we're looking as though we're not going to be the most exciting team to watch this season in terms of goalscoring. I'm beginning to worry that our goal difference tally for last season is going to be a distant memory this time around. I have no idea why Vardy is getting in ahead of Schlupp. He really does have one of the worst first touches I've ever seen in the game.

I hope this is just pre season friendlies being pre season friendlies and difficult to gauge, but I worry that it goes deeper than that and our bad run at the end of last season is potentially going to continue into this one. Let's hope not.

There's some seriously ****ed up shit in this thread. We got beat by Monaco FFS, you know, the club that spend between £12M and £50M on 1 player. The side that doubtless will be playing Champions League football next year. FFS.

But, but.... I thought that trying to buy success was foolish. Surely, the wise posters of this board have been telling us that the ONLY way to success is to build, slowly.

I do not think that the fact that we lost is the main issue: it is more that we rolled over and capitulated without a fight.

There's just a tiny little bit of difference on throwing money at players like Vardy, Beckford & the complete set of Svenabuys and on the other hand being able to bring in the likes of Falcao, Mouthino and Abidal (to name a few) :icon_wink

If only some people were able to comprehend that.
