Did you see the Leicester fans being herded to the Barnsley game five minutes before kick off?

No, I was sensible enough to get in on a train at about 11 and went to the pub, if you do arrive with the crowds you deserve what you get for not planning your day.

Last season i got the train that gets to Leicester at 1130 (approx) and they had already starting "hearding" wendies

I live in Sheffield and am a season tiket holder.

Every time wednesday have come down they have stopped every one on my train who looks like there going to football and asked them to come to one side only on showing my ST do they allow you out the staition

I always leave via the car park to avoid such issues. :icon_wink

What if you've got no choice but to arrive and leave with the crowds?

If the police cannot identify you as a trouble maker they can't hold you in an area, in cardiff last year they tried to do a section 5 on me when we asked to get out of the carpark but when the law was explained to them they let us on our way.

Your average copper has a fairly poor grasp of what is actually legal and they tend to get away with trampling over peoples rights.

But they do it anyway.

I remember my train to Wolves being late a few years ago. 10-20 Leicester fans got off the train, and we were going to miss the kick off. One person decided he didn't want to walk with the police escort to the ground, he was going to get a taxi instead. The police arrested him for trying to do this.

If you have a home ticket and can't be identified as an away fan (ie. not in colours or known to the police) the police wouldn't have a clue if you were an away fan and wouldn't escort you to the away end. It is the clubs job to make sure that they don't sell tickets to fans in the wrong areas and police will only get involved to stop trouble, if you were an away fan with a home ticket you'd not be escorted.

I think you are being naive if you think the onus will be on the police to prove that you are an away fan; if they believe you to be an away fan, you will be treated as such. The police will do whatever they judge in their wisdom that they need to do to prevent trouble. If they have reason to believe that you are an away fan, you are likely to be 'put into the escort'. If you then produce your home ticket and they still have reason to believe that you are an away fan, you are likely to be detained.

What actually happens on the day will depend on the 'intelligence' that the police have gathered and the behaviour of fans earlier in the day.

Try testing that on a political demonstration... when it comes to crowd control, in practice police have the right to do pretty much as they please. The more so if a football match is involved.

Might decide to travel down on the Friday instead.

I wouldn't bother with that Jeff. When the positions are reversed at away games and it looks like the cops are likely to herd us with the great mass of LCFC fans we normally hang back on the platform for about ten minutes. Always works for us, and I'd suggest you do that on Saturday.

Bocadillo I've already stated earlier that I have always got around this type of control by the police, frankly I don't care how anyone else gets on, learns some law and plan your travel and you'll be ok in my experience.

Jeff, I'd suggest wearing a Leicester replica shirt, or scarf or bobble hat.

I had thought of that but I wasn't sure if it's possible to go that way now they've installed ticket barriers.

As far as i'm aware, leaving via the footbridge to the car park is still ok. In fact, I've left by it since the barriers were installed. Just make sure your at the very rear of the train when it pulls into platform 3 at Leicester.
