Interesting. The 'case now' being this season? Or last also??
For me Brendan started pushing it when he started dropping weird gaslight-type statements like "We don't have a problem with set pieces" after conceding what felt like the 50th corner in a row.
Same too for saying his own signings are not good enough, as if he wasn't even involved in them

When he started, he made subs that we all watched and thought 'that makes sense'. Now he doesn't.

5th, 5th, 8th, FA Cup, Charity Shield.

Aside THAT season, it’s never been better….
I agree that is a strong run of accolades however, a little bit of context is required here:

both of those 5th place finishes should have been as either 3 or 4th place, we literally capitulated the worst of which was the performance against Bournemouth. As for the FA Cup he will always be remembered for it the same as Ranieri for winning the league.

As BN has stated in a previous post no one wants to see him fail I do not think any fan wants to see our manager fail irrelevant of who is at the helm at any given time. The game against Brentford this season haunts me and should have caused a great deal worry to everyone who supports this amazing club. It was not that we drew with Brentford because I perceive us to be a bigger club, it was the blinding hubris of BR.

Consider this, had BR actually tried to win the game (he had 4 other subs to influence the loss of momentum) we would have been sat on 3 points with a bit of confidence going into the Arsenal game. No one expected us to beat Arsenal but it would have given BR breathing space going into the Saints Game.

Against Southampton ( I only saw the highlights at a wedding) it seemed to me as soon as he withdrew Vardy, Hasenhuttl pushed them forward BR tactically got it wrong again. We now face Chelsea and Man Utd and will probably be bottom of the Prem before the international break.

If BR thought he was a making a statement against the chairman with his selection and tactical changes I believe it was a huge miss calculation and will cost him his job, the difference will be in whether Top is as ruthless as his old man and will react quickly and pull the metaphorical trigger.

For me we sack him now not because of last night, Crawley beat Fulham with 7 first team players missing, it is because of his arrogance, if we are not careful we will be back in the championship, this league is brutal and those who react slowly perish.

Just picking up on this point, but that wasn't the case. They were already pushing forward by that point and that change didn't alter the shape greatly. There was a bigger change to the shape when he brought Barnes off and put Nacho on, which made us narrower in midfield and exacerbated the problem we had, which was the space they were getting out wide. Tactically he got it wrong, agree, but it wasn't necessarily in connection with the Vardy substitution.

All caveated with an IMO, obviously

Thank you I was unable to see the whole game so thank you for highlighting it, what are your thoughts on BR staying or going?
I suggested him for our job long before he got it (https://talkingballs.uk/threads/and-manager-for-next-season.38874/post-1298288). I think he's done very well for us (even though we fell at the final hurdle a couple of times), so he has a fair bit of credit in the bank in general with me.

But fans aren't thick. It was insulting to suggest that we didn't have an issue with set pieces last season and it's insulting to talk about what supporters want in regards to signings, when it's clearly done in order to make his point and use us as an excuse. It's gaslighting and done to protect his name (understandable as that may be from his own point of view).

Ultimately at the minute he looks like a petulant child trying to be clever, but being pretty obvious to anyone with an ounce of sense, who can see straight through what he's saying. My hope is that it settles down once the transfer window closes and things are a bit more stable, but if he's damaged relationships behind the scenes (which none of us really know), then the club have to do what they have to do. Let's face it, it wouldn't be the first time we've got rid of a manager who has done well for us (aye, Claudio, so to speak).

Great post PPF, I concur.

It is a shame he was sacked though.

I was just looking at the '2022/23 season predictions' thread, regarding the 'Will Rodgers still be manager at the end of the season?' question.

17 replys.

Yes (stay): 11
No (gone): 5
Probably: 1

I was a 'Yes' (Stay) but not after the way this season is going. I do think most of the Yes (stay) people are the same.

Anyway. We are now bottom of the league and I don’t see that changing any time soon.
