The hysterically annoying and totally unfounded, but traditional, Summer 2024 rumours thread.

Sky are reporting that two PL sides are trying to sign Neal Maupay.

Just checked and Steve Cooper tried to sign him a couple of years back for Forest.

You still want a new striker?
Neal Maupay

Comes in, scores 3 in his first 5 games.

Then 1 in 11.

On the bench.

Listed next summer. Zero interest.

Goes to Stoke the following January. Undisclosed fee (believed to be in the region of **** all)

Or we could just not bother.

If we sign a striker it will be someone like Maupay, Ings or Fofana - I don't see how we have the cash for a considerable outlay and it sounds like someone coming in may be reliant on Cannon leaving.

Blimey. Sorry lads, we can’t have a new striker, we spent all the dollar on Skipp.

Wow

I think we have one or two options lined up (Fofana, Ings, Broja), but one of them coming in will be dependant on us shipping Cannon out.

Well, here we are on deadline day and still no sign of a striker. :102:
Which means we're going into the season with an injury prone 37 year old as our main striker and another comically bad striker, already ruled out for months with an ankle injury as our back up.

Meanwhile we seem to have bought x3 number 10s.

Maybe we're bringing the false 9 back

Rob Tanner seems to think that it will just be outgoings today.

Surely not.

If that's true then we've effectively given up

Or chosen to spunk our money randomly on a load of shit in the wrong positions with no plan whatsoever

Or, as I strongly suspect, both of the above

Maybe we’re planning on playing Ayew as a number 9 to rotate with Vardy, with Mavididi, Fatawu, BDCR, and McAteer as the wingers, and Buonanotte and Bilal behind the main striker.

Hence maybe no striker will be coming in.

"
Chelsea striker Armando Broja has seen a loan move to Ipswich collapse because of an injury.

An initial loan move with an obligation to buy for £30m had been agreed but an issue flagged in the medical put Ipswich off completing the deal.

They are now looking at alternative options before deadline day as the Albania international, 22, is expected to stay at Stamford Bridge.

A move to another club isn't being ruled out but Broja needs a period of rehabilitation to work on a foot injury sustained in training while on the pre-season tour of the United States.

Broja scored two goals in 19 appearances for Chelsea last season before spending the second half of the campaign on loan at Fulham.

It may be decided that he stays with his boyhood club until January before seeking a move when fully fit."

Or maybe Cooper just goes for 3 forwards as any combination of wingers and strikers that rotate around the pitch Barcelona style. Whoever finds themself in front of the goal with the ball in a bit of space takes the shot.

Can El Khannouss play up front?

No striker would be shocking.

Ayew will probably be our most regular starting striker if that's the case
