Re: Chelsea / Brum v Leicester FA Cup Quarter Final

I'll have my note pad at the ready and send on my comments to Nigel. No charge either. I'm sure he is the sort of guy who would greatly appreciate any comments/ technical advice.

If it's going badly you could always pop into the dressing room at half time.

Re: Chelsea / Brum v Leicester FA Cup Quarter Final

The two Merseyside matches are on ITV (Everton 12:45 Sat, Liverpool 4pm Sun), so it looks like we'll be on ESPN.

EDIT: The Birmingham/Chelsea replay is on ITV on Tues 6th March.

Would have preferred the 4pm but at least it's not the 12.45pm

Re: Chelsea / Brum v Leicester FA Cup Quarter Final - Sun 18 March

Would have preferred a Saturday at 3.00pm but that was never going to happen

It's a sad state of affairs that it's the TV companies who choose when football matches are played. The fact that football matches are played for the convenience of the TV viewing public, and not the fans who actually go to the games sucks.

Surprised it's not the earliest kick-off possible considering our high risk fans will be travelling in even more force this time!!

Not a bad kick-off time though seeing as they are all crap.

As a member of the former group, I don't think it's particularly sad at all. I can watch four or five Premier League matches every weekend without zapping, and early kickoffs suit me perfectly.

I can see why you're being annoyed, but as long as we arm-chair supporters are many times more than you people who actually go to games, I'm afraid it won't change.

There'll come a time when TV scheduling will put fans off going to games, or make it nigh on impossible.

Do you really, really want to watch TV games where all you can hear is the players shouting at each other? For a lot of fans, I'm guessing not, going by a lot of tweets I read about the atmosphere we created at last night's game.

Of course fans that can attend games won't. But fans that can't afford to or live in a different location always will and they far outnumber us.

Would it really matter if your viewing wasn't live?

What are you going to do when the bubble bursts?

Hopefully when the bubble bursts, matches will be cheaper again and I can afford to start going.

There used to be a time when if you couldn't afford to go to a game, or you couldn't travel to get to a game, you'd accept the fact that shit happens, and get on with it.

Now with virtual constant coverage of football on TV, some people expect the likes of Sky to accommodate them. Yeah, there's a lot of them out there, but the money they pay is small fry compared to the advertising deals etc. It's all about money, which only ends up in the pockets of players and their sycophantic agents.

You don't actually need Sky. And as much as I love football, there's only so much time I have to dedicate to watching hours and hours of it. If people got rid of their Sky contracts, they might be able to afford to go to the occasional game; those fans who support teams lower down on the greater scale might actually see their team more times than they do on the TV.

I can't wait for the bubble to burst, if I'm honest.

In Italy ALL serie A matches are shown live and you can flick from one to the other. The result has been terrible attendance figures-also down to the growing belief that match fixing by the big clubs will never end.At least here I think (allowing for referees being scared to give a pen in front of the Kop etc)we know it"s a fair contest. That is why I hope there will be no churlishness in the east mids when the mighty tigers administer a terrible mauling next month!!!!!

1. Yes, it's the tension and those decisive moments that could turn everything around that I like about sports, and knowing that it's not live would spoil that for me.

2. I will observe it all falling apart (if this happens) with mild amusement. Football used to play a huge part of my life, but it's only entertainment for me now. I could survive without it if I had to.

I agree that Murdoch and some club directors have destroyed football as we knew it, but will I keep watching? I'm afraid I will - just because I have nothing better to do with my Saturday afternoons.
